New User: My Fiance has CF She is 28. Any similar scenarios?

I really am looking for advice in general. I am absolutely in love and am not afraid of anything in the future. Just, how have some people gone about having children, Are we too old?

Congratulations on your engagement!!

Please don't let CF stand in the way of your love and relationship.

In answer to your question...

I'm 28 and had a baby just 3 months ago <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

It really depends on your fiance's health, as there is a great variation on how CF progesses. Some of us are very well at 28, some are very ill. Her doctor should be able to give you an idea if pregnancy is a good idea or not.

You should also definately get yourself tested to see if you carry any CF genes, as any children you have will be carriers of the gene, but if you carry the gene yourself your children could have CF (bit complex, but you should also be able to ask her doctor about that too).

All the best for a long marriage full of love!

I'm 28 and had my daughter 3 yrs ago, and we are planning on having another baby very soon.
My hubby and I were always open to either pregnancy or adoption, but its turned out that pregnancy has been ok for me.
However that varies with each woman with cf. Some choose adoption or other means to have a baby, some women can handle 3 pregnancies, some only 1 pregnancy. Each situation is different and all options should be openly discussed with your docs.

My Cf doctor once said that she never had a patient that had the desire to to have a family-and through one means or another-were not able to have one. I've never forgotten that.

When my husband and I were engaged, the docs told him (10 yrs ago) that I'd likely never be able to carry a pregnancy safely. But he loved me for me, and we were determined to make a family in another way if needed. Through improvements in Cf treatment, and knowledge, it turned out we could get pregnant. So things change and knowledge is power!

You're smart to come here for more info and keep getting information together, working hard together and you'll achieve your dreams.

I am 24, married, and have a 20 month old healthy boy! I was pretty healthy my entire pregnancy other than going into preterm labor at 27 weeks. so i stayed in the hospital until it was safe to have my baby. so at 36 weeks they took me off the preterm labor meds, and i went into labor 12 hrs later. I had a c-section because i am very narrow. and to show you how God can bless you abundantly..my baby coming from a cf-er who only gained 17 lbs while pregnant, i had a whopping 9 lb. 2 oz baby that was a whole month early!! the docs said if i had made it full term he could have been 12+ lbs!!! the docs couldnt believe it, that a cf mom who cant absorb food and nutrition properly, has this humungo baby boy! he is the greatest thing that has ever happend to me and my husband. i will be praying for you and ur fiance to have an amazing marriage and family! also my pfts never dropped while or after my pregnancy! i hope this was some encouragement for you! Good luck! and God Bless!

Awww Thank you ladies! I have done all the research but that can only get you so far. Her PFTS are way up (Cracking the whip on those Nebbies) AKA: "Baby, It's Nebbie Time" And She is actually taking her enzymes, which according to her Mom is a miracle. She wants to carry and I fully support that. It's every girl's right to carry their baby. Unless we get a really dirty look from her Doctor. =/ Thank you!

Hi Brandon,
I was actually very sick and my PFT's were crap when I found out I was pregnant. I had already gone to Cleveland Clinic to be evaluated for a double lung and liver transplant. I was 24 at that time and being that I really was not healthy, I was told to terminate the pregnancy. I decided that I wanted to go ahead and carry the baby as far as I could..I didn't want to give up. My son was born 7 weeks early, but was healthy. He is now 4.5 years old!!

If you or your fiance want to read the whole story, you can visit my blog... www.daysinthelifeofacfpatient.blogspot.com
I hadn't written in my blog in over a year, and am just now starting to update everything. Feel free to read as much as you want.

I am now 29, had the double lung and liver transplant in January 2007, and although I can't have anymore kids, I'm very happy with my decisions and where I'm at today.
