Osteoporosis Meds

I found out yesterday at my endocrine appt. that my bone condidtion is worsening and the doc wants me to try a medicine in the form of a daily injection. I can't recall the name of it, some of you may know, but it should help my body build more bone. I'm just curious if anyone else here is on a similar regimen for osteoporosis and how it has worked? I was osteopenic, but as of yesterday, it was decided this was the route to take.

I was diagnosed with osteoperosis and my doc at the time prescribed fosamax, which is a pill. But I had a friend with the bone disease osteogenisis imperfecta (it's the brittle bone disease) and she warned me that most of the medications for osteoperosis were dangerous. I didn't really research it like I should have, I just decided not to take the fosamax and have not been treating my osteoperosis. Part of this is because I didn't trust the doctor I had at the time...but your post reminds me that I need to bring this up with my current doc and see what, if anything, he prescribes. If it turns out to be an injection, we'll have to commiserate together. Good luck...hope you get some more helpful answers than what I've given you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I have been on fosamax, 70 mg ones a week, for many years now.
Fosamax helps the body absorb calcium better. I got it after one of the bone density scan they did when i was younger.

I'm post tx and am on Calcichew now too. That is calcium and i take 500 mg twice a day.

Fosamax and Calcichew are standard in my center post tx, because of the side effects from other meds, prednisolon for instance.
