The last port I had lasted a little over 10 years. Hoping to make the new one last as long. There is pain after it's put in, but it goes away. I'm a bit of a wimp and have them put emla cream over the port to numb the skin before accessing. After about a year there will be enough scar tissue so you won't feel a thing when it's being accessed.

I love my port for the same reasons CowTown mentioned. I hated having to go to IR to get a picc placed!! So far mine has lasted almost 7 years with no problems and no signs of quitting anytime soon.

It's also in placed in my chest area, and the breast tissue covers it nicely, unfortunately i got a celloid scar, but with injections for that it's improved a lot.
