Question about blood in sputum

Hey guys, I know I asked a question a while ago about the same thing but this time its different.

When you cough up blood, is it bright red or brown? I'm asking b/c one of my CF friends was told by her primary (Not her CF dr) that bright red just indicated it's
your throat. They told her not to worry about it; she even went to work today! So I guess I'm asking what color and how much? (I may be being paranoid...as a matter of fact I probably am)

I've never really coughed up blood but that doesn't seem right! I would think that you can get red or brown from you lungs. That makes more sense to me. It would be like someone saying "oh no green goo only comes from the lungs, not the nose"...we all know that isn't true!

Bright red can definitely be from the lungs.

Bright red also means the blood is fresh (i.e. there is an active bleed going on). Brown blood is usually old.
