I also think that running is the most effective exercise to stay healthy and keep your body fit. But with that you should also take care of your diet and also try to take balanced diet. I think that it is the best options.

I believe running has saved my life. Keep it up and push for goals every time. Hills, faster, sprints etc. I am 52 and holding. Good job
