Growing up I never had many sinus issues..buy i do remember having a polyp and my doctor warned that the surgery could be life threatning? Meaning the mucus could go to the brain and i could die?..that bein said weve been not so keen to jump on it..now here seems last couple years i been getting alot of sinus pressure, ears ringing, and tht smell and nasty hard clumps back my throat i always gag its so distgusting!..but im wandering if im reinfecting my lungs and that why im more sick often?..if so im highly considering sinus surgery! Because i cant afford to be losing anymore lung function an i also have just started pulmonary rehab and intense lung exercising soo wandering really if the sinus surgery is all that dangerous..i know obviosly with any procedure theres risks but i want to know how many cf people have this done <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Abby has had 10 sinus surgeries and I am thankful we did each one. I've never heard of them being dangerous like your dr has said. I was always told it can b dangerous to leave them too long which is what happened with her. Her polyps ate through the bone in her sinus cavities is what we were told. Her eyes fell back in her sinus cavities. I'm sure yours are not that bad. Abby is doing great now. Let. Me know if you have any questions. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I believe that there are risks, just like with ANY surgery, but the risks are rare. Bleeds, infection, and when someone's picking around in your sinuses with a sharp object, your eyes and brain are at risk (I know that sounds scary!!). I've studied up on it and have never heard of that being something that happens much. The doc's are required to warn you before you sign a consent form. It's still scary to hear! Anyway, with CF, the major worry is the anesthesia and pain medication. They cause respiratory depression and that's not good for a CFer. With my daughter and my cousin, the doc's get together and try to knock out two birds with one stone. They do a bronch and sinus surgery at the same time and, if needed, a PICC insertion. That way they only put you out once and reduce the risk of decreased respiratory function. Here is a tutorial that the hospital I work at uses to teach about sinus surgery:

Hope this helps!

This would be really interesting, but, where is the right margin? It cuts off the posts so I can't read anything cohrerrent. Also, the usual icons at the post tops and the reply stuff on the bottom right of every post under the topic of Sinus Surgery, which the question/topic is duplicated but no message

Oh, I'm sorry!! I hope this works (I had to split the link so that it would fit):

There are MANY topics. Sinus surgery is located on the right side about mid-page. Click on it and a separate window should open. Click "Run Tutorial" and it should start.
