Strange question

Has anyone ever heard about eating bird seed as a snack. My son has done some research about how bird seed is high in calories. He asked me if he could eat it as a supplement to the things we are already doing. I did not have an answer to why or why not. Does anyone know anything about this idea.

well bird seed can contain peanuts, millet, dried berries, sun flower seeds and other seeds. All of which people can and do eat. I wouldn't eat it from a bird seed package though. I have found mold and other yucky stuff in those. But you can get him all the ingredients (human food grade) and mix it up and he can have it! Sounds very nutritious!

A mixture of seeds (from packages for humans not for birds )is a great snack - you can also ad somee salt to it and raisins - all nuts are high calories as well as sun flower seed, weat and other seeds - I think it's a great idea for a healthy snack.

DS LOVES sunflower seeds -- the salted ones that have been shelled. We go thru several jars a week. He also eats a lot of peanuts.

Good - alot of good fats and less problems with digestion! I backe bread for Joanna with sunflower seed, wheat grains and linseed and pumpikin seed - she loves it and often asks for nuts
We have problem with too hard stools and this acctually helps with this problem - at least that is what the doc I spoke too said

I'd consider starting with a 'base' of trail mix heavy on stuff like raisins and nuts and sunflower seeds and consider adding more seeds and some salt... he'd have a snack that was a very concentrated source of fat, protein and fiber.

I agree with the others that anything marketed for animals would have a higher chance of contamination or potentially contain chemicals not safe for humans, though.
