back in may, i wrote a post asking people to explain their experiences and reservations about starting on oxygen for my father's benefit. my dad has emphysema, and needed, but resisted, going on oxygen for several years.

i am happy to report that with encouagment from his loved ones, his doctor, and the people who replied to this topic, he has started on oxygen and couldn't be happier. at first he used it only at night and noticed a big difference in his energy during the day with just that! he will also use it on days he is just feeling sluggish, and he's admitted he's working up to wearing it out in public.

anyway, i know this was kind of a weird, random post. my father was going to come on here himself to thank the people who replied but then i explained he'd have to get a user name, and then search for the original topic so anyone would know what he was talking about... so he said i could do it.

here is the original post for anyone who is interested:

i know what you mean, mel. for a while i just had to try to accept that he was living his life the way he wanted to -- shortening it or lessening the quality unnecessarily. knowledge is power! but ultimately it is a personal decision.

good luck with your mom.

Sorry I couldn't be amongst those who were able to encourage your dad to do O2. My parents have been on it for a while, but I don't see them on a day-to-day basis to get enough info to help.

On the flip-side, I did find the benefit of having O2 in the house when I needed it...Of course, they live in CO, so most everyone carries an O2 tank, anyway....

Glad your father found improvement to encourage him to use the O2 further, and "Cheers!" to those on the site who could help out!
