About a year ago last april I started the local gym near my home. I was going 5 times a week for about a month when I got super sick and ended up in the hospital for major mucus plugs on my lungs. They thought I had pneumonia but it wasnt. it was just that bad. I hadnt gone to the gym since then and was doing great might I add. About a month ago I started the gym again. To my surprise I end up really sick again, Is the gym really that bad that it gets me sick everytime or is that just my imagination? Has this happend to anyone?

Hi!!

Well that's interesting,- but CF is full surprises,-

But actually,I would take it more easy for a while, instead of 5x times a week,- try 2, then build up to 3,( this is my routine ) esp since you have been sick lately. In my opion 5X times a week is too much,- it extremely important for a CF body to fully recover after exercise, as remember our phyical demends are double/triple that of a person without CF.

But all in all, when you got CF you HAVE to exercise, just take it easy and starting slow is the key Also, make sure to wipe down eqiupment before use, and wash your hands, the usual "advice" to avoid buggies

I've been on the verge of joining a gym myself, but I have recently read MRSA is on the rise in gym environments. If regular people are getting infected, how about CFers? This is one of the superbugs that we all dread. Is it worth the risk? I'm not sure.

I go to the gym 5-7 days a week (once the weather gets nicer, I'll move outdoors for my workouts)

I haven't had any problems getting sick after going to the gym or anything... I don't even wipe down the equipment w/ the sanitizing wipes before/after use (I know, it's bad, I just don't do it).

I do always wash my hands immediately after going to the gym, and make sure to not lay my face on the mats that are used during the classes (ewww...people sweat on those, etc) when we are cooling down/stretching.

To be extra cautious, maybe bring lysol/chlorox wipes to clean equipment before use, and of course wash hands, etc. If you are always noticing after the gym, maybe move your workouts outdoors for a bit and see if it's the act of working out that's causing the problems, or the gym.

Sorry I don't have much advice, and I'm sorry you're having these issues...good luck!
