I'm not sure I could ever forgive my parents for having me if they knew there was a possablity of me having CF. I see how bad my Dad and Mom feel about it and I was there first and only kid. I'm seen my dad cry sometimes, and that is the only thing I have ever seen him cry about. It is all bad. Adopt, You will love them as much as You love Your other kids.

Karismom, thank you for saying what you said. It's a rare parent, especially with 2 CF kids, that can speak so candidly, and have the heart to admit such a thing. Ry's parents originally wanted 5 or 6 children, and when Ry was little, and still healthy, Hannah thought about having more. Thankfully, cooler heads ( Michael's) prevailed. After Ry's death, Hannah said she was so grateful that they had stopped, because that was hell. And I think what you said was right. Parents don't have another child because God wants it, or because they don't want their CFer to be lonely. They do it because they don't want to be childless, whatever risk, with worse odds than Russian Roulette, that means taking.

Like Mel said, it isn't dying. It's the decline. The last week of Ry's life was easy on him, he was out of pain, and the pressure was off. It was all the time that led up to it that was hell. Seeing someone you love struggle so hard that they can no longer walk across the room, or dress themselves, or shower, is painful to watch. There's so much physical and emotional pain wrapped up in those end stages, and I would never make Ry go through that had I the power to stop it.

Being brought up and explained to all are fine and good - but nothing is going to change how one's brain develops.

The frontal lobe is not fully developed until late in adolescense. The ability to make rational decisions about emotional topics is something that comes with age. No amount of upbringing can change that.

Thank you Allie.

GOOD to hear from you! I even started a new post asking if you were OK! You and I and SO SO many others unfortunately know the absolute HORRORS of CF, and as I said, at the time we decided to have Holli Jade, it WAS a selfish gamble. ME ME ME. someone posted earlier and asked if these moms would take any other 25% chance at their child getting hurt, etc. that was such a VALID question. I TRULY believe that if any of the moms who are even thinking about having another child had to for ONE moment watch one of their others suffer the end stages of CF they would quickly change their tune.

peace.
