What is scientology anyway? Wait! Don't tell me! I don't want to know! ARGH! Cults everywhere! By the way, who is Tom Cruise?

Unfortunately my view on Tom Cruise has been low for quite some time. So the Today Show incident only lowered his standing even more on my opinion scale. I am glad I missed the Operah thing (was studying for finals) since it seems I only missed a man making a bigger fool of himself.

With the whole Scientology thing: They believe that what is true is what one believes to be true. So if you believe you aren't sick than you're not and vice versa. Of course there are some problems with this idea. What one believes does not change the reality, in fact it can make the reality worse. It is hard to find anything on the subject without having to pay for a book or cassette even on the internet. So here is a brief piece of information on the founder. The founder of scientology studied at George Washington University. He studied engineering, atomic and molecular physics. He was a science fiction writer and a successful Hollywood screen writer. His name was L. Ron Hubbard. While I find his science fiction to be beyond that of most writers, his philosophy is very flawed. Scientology is not even a century old. Yes it seems very cultish, and any religion that tells me that CF is just in my mind is obviously smoking something. I am scientist (a student still) and Scientology diffinitely has no logical basis for me. While other religions don't have a form of logic as well, they at least acknowledge disease. They rely on a person faith and not on his pocket book.

I would give you a better synopsis, but I am on vacation and my book on world religions is at home. It has a good discription.

As for the purification thing. People will pay outrageous prices for a "miracle cure". I am into organic (no limits on what I eat, will explain later). Once a month I do a detox, but it is a day of lemon water, raw fruits and veggies and lots of water. I do it because I have a sensitive stomach and this seems to help sooth it, but I don't pay $2000 for it. And one can always eats more fruits and vegitables. But I don't see it as a "miracle cure" it's just regular maintainence to keep me healthy.

Okay I have embarressingly spent a little time googling this recently because I just think it is so interesting that such a public figure would get so publicly involved in a "cult" this way without doing any research. I just can't believe that Tom at no point googled this religion or got an opposing prespective before throwing in with this crowd. But i'm assuming that's what he did because once you have read just a few of the very compelling things availiable on the internet it's hard to believe you would still think this is a legitimate religion and not a money making scam.

I will point out it seems that celebs (ironically since they have so much money) are not usually hit up for large sums since they bring so much validation and publicity to them that they are legit. Also, they are known for extortion, kidnapping, and have been shut down in Greece and are on the run in Germany. Interesting. Oh and they keep suing to get info about them of the internet...ha! good luck on that one! ayway if you are interested just google, tons of stuff comes up, it's rather fascinating it's so bizarre. i think they may have misinterperted Tom's value. i think he's causing more people to distrust it then to take an appreciative interest.

Anyway, i definitnely think it's a cult and Tom has gone Cououkoo...if i was Katies mother I'd have her kidnapped back!
