According to this blog by http://www.jamiebug.blogspot.com/ the average wait time is only 16 days for lung tranplant at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh. The longest wait the have had in the year or so is 6 months. The did 15 lung transplants in November 2007 alone.

Anyway, I just found that shocking. I had no idea they did that many.

The blog is great. The young lady was tranplanted in December or January and is doing really well. That's great to hear. I will warn you, the blog has a picture of the surgery on it, so if you are squeemish keep that in mind.

Awesome! Hey, if that is where you are at, I have heard great things. There are actually 4 large centers that do high volumes of lung tx's. Duke, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Barnes Jewish. I am not sure why, but their wait times are much shorter. Pittsburgh and some others are doing inhaled cyclosporine post transplant which sutdies have shown is very beneficial in preventing rejection. Tid bit of information you can bring up that might make you sound "informed". Also, since you are researching lung transplants. Have you seen the guy on youtube he is post-transplant and has competed in the ironman competition. If you get a chance just look him up on youtube

No, Pitt is not that far from me, probably 3-4 hours but right now I am not being listed at that center. I'm really pleased with the results they are getting at my center so unless I need to speed things up, I will stay where I am.
