Hi All,
Thanks to all you that have been praying for Nathan!

He was admitted yesterday, 12/5. They had given his bed away in the Clinical Research Centere (CRC), where the CF kids tend to go and prefer to go, so we are on the 8th floor. That was a trauma filled event! He was so mad and wasn't going to stay if he couldn't be in the CRC but we finally got him to agree to stay. Now that he is going to be 15 on the 16th of the month, it is really a lot harder in some ways. I know that I am the parent, however, he is really to old to be forced to do something he doesn't want to do. And I have to agree with him that they shouldn't make promises they have no intention of keeping or can't keep. When they are 3 or 4 they do what you say because you are the parent and thats the end of it but at 14 and up that doesn't work quite the same way anymore.

It was a very draumaful event to say the least and the drama isn't over yet because as usual the orders are all messed up, big fat surprise. With any luck, I will be able to get them all straightened out today for him. Hopefully they got the message that I am in nursing school, won't be able to be here 24/7 to make sure everything is correct, and they can't call me when I am in testing or clinicals and will get it all fixed today so come Monday we don't have to worry as much.

I'll check into chat often, even though I need to study, study, study, I need breaks too.

Thanks & I'll keep you posted,

12/9 - We are still not in the CRC but he seems to have settled in now and is doing good. Finally broke the fever, I think, at least it is staying below 100.5 now and hasn't spiked back to 102.5 since Sunday, knock on wood.

It seems there are some differences of opinions around here about when Nathan can and might go home. If you ask his regular, primary guys, when we are ready and I am able to provide the needed supervision and help with IV's. If you ask the attending that is on now, and doesn't know Nathan, he could go home now and is old enough to do the tune-up at home all by himself, if he even needs to finish his IV's. I sent a concerning message to his doc and nurse and they are so not in agreement with that at all, I sure feel better knowing that. I thought I might be missing something, but turns out the other guy just became an attending, still has a lot to learn, and it is him that is missing something.

I wonder if we will ever get to come and do a tune-up without having to fight battles everytime? I wonder if they will ever learn to consult the doc who knows the patient, why he admitted him, why we do what we do, and what the other issues are that the numbers just aren't showing? Do they really think we LIKE doing this? Plus this time, what numbers is he looking at that he thinks are ok? Tune-ups just should not have to be this much work. I almost think that I might be getting more done had I just done this one at home at this point.

Sorry to complain! I know that some of you have it much worse than we do. We all need to somehow get out of this crazy cycle that CFers get sucked into at times.

Thanks for listening,

I was wondering what was up. You werent in chat early when I was so I dont know if you made it in at all or not.

I know its difficult, but if you get everything straightened out & MAKE THEM KNOW that it has to be done because of your schedule then you can focus on what you need to & he can focus on what he needs to.
