32 yr old male. Diagnosed around 4. No lung related symptoms of CF until pneumonia at 27 which resulted in my 1st hospitalization. I recovered and then did not see lung related symptoms again until 29. Since then, its been a daily thing. I am always coughing up buckets and buckets of this nasty spetum crap and/or blood. I have trouble breathing. It varies from bad to worse. Antibiotics and other treatments seem to chill things out a bit, but only temporarily. My question is: Is it like I am starting out with normal CF symptoms at 29? or does this seem like CF on steroids?

Thanks.

I am a 47 year old, diagnosed at 3. I did breathing treatments on a regualar basis my whole life, thank you mom and dad, 1st pneumonia and lung problem at age 19(always had the digestive problem, how I was diagnosed with it) for me was gradual decline, I have been spending 3 trips a year in hospital the last 2 years, I have both the staph and psuedo. By reading forums and listening, there are no two people alike with it besides the varying types of CF. I have Df508x2 the most common.

Every CFer is different. And there are so many things in our lives that can cause different problems. I guess my questions to you would be, Are you happy w/ your dr./clinic ? Are you being compliant w/ your treatments ? Are you exercising ? Even w/ doing EVERYTHING Possible we can still have not such good results, but at least we can say we are doing our best .. I hope you feel better soon..

Hello Needyhrt,

I am 38 years old and was not diagnosed until I was 22 years old. I played hockey until I was 18 and was very active with sports at school I think that's why I never really had major lung issues until after I stopped playing hockey. I was working and going to school and did not have time for hockey. My problems started when I was around 20 the daily productive cough started, and I would go to my family doctor who usually prescribed oral Cipro and it worked for awhile then the cough came right back. I probably put up with this for too long before I finally told my doctor I wanted to see lung specialist and it wasn't long after that I was properly diagnosed. We are both struggling now I am actually on the transplant list but I am happy that I had a pretty normal child and was able to do many things that CF kids are not able to do. I couldn't imagine having to deal with this in high school.
