In the middle of the night... (for bleeders)

I haven't been told never, but to use with caution. If I am already having a little streaking, or feel extra pluggy, Ibuprofen will bring on some hemoptysis. I have been told to never take Benadryl, except for severe allergic reactions.

    Running in Cold Temps

Can any runners comment on how well, or not well, they deal with cold temps? I have an upcoming race in Feb but thats in FL. To prepare for that race, I'm considering a shorter one in Central Park, nyc in Jan, with my family. My immediate reaction is "I can't run in cold weather!". But if you...

The Best Exercise to Raise PFT scores

Happy to hear that, 4hats! Great! Having inspiration and running buddies can really help in pushing yourself. My awesome brother pushed me to do an extra long run myself today. Whatever works! :)

The Best Exercise to Raise PFT scores

I began a running program recently with my sisters. After a bad bout of pneumonia I decided it was not going to permanently alter my lung function or take me 6 months to recover from. I never tried running before because I thought "What if I just cough the whole time?" Well, I did cough the...

    LivingXtreme:Beyond Cystic Fibrosis

This film is awesome. I'd encourage parents of Cfers especially to watch it with their kids. This is a big reason I decided to begin running.

As long as she has a 105 or recent model, she will be fine. It is set up so the voltage converts automatically. With a basic 3 prong outlet adapter, she'll be fine anywhere.

Your top 3 supplements - if you could only choose three, what would they be?

High quality multivitamin, I like New Chapter bc its from live plant sources so that gives it high absorption. New Chapter's antioxidant formula to fight free radicals and repair tissue. And the 3rd is a tie between probiotics bc I'm always battling the effects of antibiotics (yeast), OR Omegas...

    Travel Advice Needed

I've traveled extensively and always bring my vest, nebs and all meds. Skipping treatments on a vaca is, for me, a guarantee I'll be paying the price once I get home. I could rely on hubby for chest pt, but I prefer to have my independence, and him his freedom. :) I even brought my vest to...

Marathon: Is it healthy or not?

I am a beginning runner training for a half marathon with my sisters. My lungs haven't felt this good in a long time. Running has really improved my health, not only physically but mentally. Its very empowering. When you consider that some of the most successful Cfers are runners, (check out...

    In the hospital

Depends on the type of relationship you have with your doc. For me and my doc, sometimes she does similar type things-insisting on doing/trying something even though there doesn't appear a hard reason to do so. We've been together long enough though, that now I see she's usually acting on...

    Dogs ok or not?

My doc always told me, if I have a dog, love it. If not, it would be best to not get one due to allergens. My personal feelings are, unless there are extreme allergies, the positive impact that the affection of an animal brings far outweigh any negative impact on health.

    Port removal on Monday morning

You're probably in twilight sleep right now! :) But, no you are not aware of anything. It is exactly like you have fallen into a deep sleep and just kept there until they wake you up. My surgeon this past winter told me this type of anesthesia starts to leave your body almost as soon as it...

    Port removal on Monday morning

I had conscious sedation about 5 times during the course of BF with both kids. I never pumped and dumped. The only time I p&d's was when I had full general anesth during an appendix surgery. I would not worry about p&d for this. The surgeon's and/or staff will tell you to p&d bc they simply do...
