    Saline Rinse...w/out saline

I don't even bother with distilled water for mine. Regular room temperature tap water with the saline packet works just as well.

    Ever dreaded a hospital stay?

I never look forward to hospital stays, but I understand they are a necessary fact of life for someone with CF. The only time that I actively fought with my doctor over an admission was in 2003, when I had five admissions over an eight month period. When they told me I'd have to go in for a...

    Zithromycin Mon wed and fri

I have been on this regimen since 2003, and while I can't say it has increased my FEV1, I have had virtually no issues with staph infections while taking it. I believe it helped keep my FEV1 stable for several years until I became colonized with b. cepatia.

What to do between rounds of tobi?

Not to rain on parade here, but fruits and vegetables only help to control blood sugar levels when eaten whole. It's the fibrous nature of the fruits and vegetables that help hold on to the sugars in your stomach. After being pureed the sugar is absorbed almost as immediately as drinking a soda.

    What is your FEV1 Score?

Currently 34%, highest it's been in almost 3 years and up from 25% at the start of my last admission in February 2012. I've been worked up for transplant but still too healthy to go on the wait list. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

    First CF Hemoptysis

Yes, the first time you cough up blood is usually a freak out moment, but you'll get used to it. I'm 36, dx at 20, and I've coughed up blood so many times that I just call the hospital and speak to respirologist on call and they ask me, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst you've ever...

Question for those with ports or considering a port

I don't know why people freak out about the size of the ports. To be honest it's hardly noticeable and I have mine on my chest about 4-5 inches above my right nipple. I've had my port about a year and haven't yet accessed it on my own but I'm sure I could. Would be nice to have the option. I...

    Acid reflux and hemoptysis?

Bleeding can also be coming from the esophagus, so just because you expectorate blood doesn't necessarily mean it's coming from the lungs. Talk to doctor about this.

    Any Canadians on here?

I've never needed that drug but my CF clinic has received special permission from Health Canada for other drugs in the past, and on fairly short notice. When ADEK vitamins stopped being manufactured, they found a replacement from the states and had it approved very quickly.
