Looking for info

Definitely ask for the genetic blood test. My son had numerous false/negative sweat tests. If you suspect CF, demand it!

    Newborn screening

It definitely should be mandatory in all states. I just think of the struggles and the daily fights and weigh ins at my son's Dr's office and I knew something was wrong...I didn't know what, but I knew it was something...and he continually put me and my son off. That was year and a half he could...

    more about Tyler!!

Welcome! I also have a 2 yr old son with CF. The happiest and sweetest kid you'll meet. And I'm not just prejudice...people tell me what a sweetheart he is all of the time! OK maybe I'm a little prejudice. Since he was diagnosed a year ago, he has...

    Newborn screening

We read in our paper that Iowa is adding CF in their screening in newborn babies. Think of the year and a half of testing on Cale we could have saved! It has actually caught a lot of attention as others have noticed it a commented to me be about it. Good news. Hopefully other states will follow...

    will someone help me???

For some reason, when I see the herbal type messages, I always wait for the sales pitch.

    When will they learn?

Maggie that is always so tempting to come back with comments like that! So funny! A friend came and picked his daughter from our house and commented how Cale looks pretty good and must be 'easy to take care of'. They also have a son his age who towers over him but another -looks good must be...

    Reality TV

I love the Apprentince as well. I live through them since I am out of the workforce right now. It use to get my mind motivated for work, as I was in Marketing/Banking. Don't do too well with the Nanny or Swaping Mommy shows. They tend to get on my nerves after a day with a houseful of kids...

    CF children and child care

We've also been struggling since ours son's diagnosis. At the same time my husband had a job transfer which forced me to leave my job. I have tried to go back to work twice (it's been a year now) and I simply am not comfortable with it right now. The one day he was at the sitter, he drank from a...

Haemophilus parainfluenzae? Anyone else culture this?

That is all Cale has culured so far too. Thankfully. They don't treat him with antibiotics until he starts to show symptoms such as coughing. He usually gets a runny nose about 2 months after he cultures it. They tell me that isn't part of it, but soon after his runny nose comes, he starts to...

    CLINIC QUESTION

Cale doesn't but I have thought about having him do so. I have only seen a couple of patients with them on. He hasn't cultured anything 'major' yet. We are usually in the waiting area for 5 minutes or so, and it is impossible to keep him away from the toys in the waiting room. So I always have...

Elephants are dancing in my tummy...

"Elephants are dancing in my tummy" This is what my 2 year old has been telling me when he gets a stomach ache. (I'm sure it is gas) I don't know if he heard it somewhere or what, but it makes me smile and brings tears to my eyes at the same time. He has the sweetest little voice. We made up...

    Help!!! Pancreatic Insufficiency

I'm with everyone else! You need to follow your gut and have a genetic test done. My son was negative for ALL of his sweat tests but his symptoms were so text book, that I wouldn't take no for an answer. After the blood test, it was confirmed and he was diagnosed. I just have no faith in the...

    To get the full affect

I totally agree. It feels like you try to think of what they want you to be thinking and talking about so it takes the quiet and relaxation part completely out of it. You might as well be on the phone with them. And I HATE talking on the phone.

    GETTING TO KNOW EVERYONE

Seana I had a terrible time getting Cale diagnosed. With our family Dr I voiced my concerns right away. I had been taking him in daily for weeks to have him weighed. He had reflux, bowels all day, 10-12 a day in the beginning down to 9 around a year old. He wasn't growing and I KNEW something...

Help, I need info about Pseudomonas

I wouldn't say my son is in a bubble because he still plays in the pool, tub, dirt etc. I do clean as much as I can without being obsessed with it. Some exposure to germs and bacterias are fine I know, but if I can prevent an infection, I guess I'm going to try. My Drs seem to agree with this...

    GETTING TO KNOW EVERYONE

Hi Seana. My name is Shelly, 31 and a stay at home Mom. Married for 12 years in Sept. Ugh! We live in Iowa and go to the University of Iowa- Childrens Hospital CF clinic. I worked in a bank for 6 1/2 years and after my son's diagnosis last year, (plus my husband being transferred 2 weeks later)...
