1 year old culturing yeast

Has anyone heard of a child culturing yeast in a regular throat culture and what is done for treatment. Saydee has no sign of a yeast infection so I don't have any ideas. She is very healthy. knock on wood. Her lungs have been clear from any wheezing or infections since April. She hasn't cultured Psud. only the once in June. We just fight with sinus problems but they think it is allergy related so she is now on Zyrtec, singular, and nasonex. She is going to a cf clinic now every 2 months cause she is doing so well they say. I do give her pulmocort once or twice a day but they figure she has asthma. Thanks for any answers...

Hi there,

my daughter has not cultured for yeast but she is on pulmicort as well. A Preventative thing we do : Our pediatrician told us that pulmicort, an inhaled steroid , can make it easier to get thrush(yeast). he wanted us to have my daughter rinse and spit with water after each treatment of pulmicort(not very practical for a young child although my daughter now 3 is able to do so). He said you could just give her a drink of water if she is unable to do the rinse and spit thing. I'm not sure of the treatment to get rid of the yeast but I know older people use Nystatin to get rid of yeast in the mouth(Not sure if they use this for a one year old. I also give my daughter acidophilus tablets which has probiotics that promote good bacteria like the ones in yogurt, but i would check with yourclinic first about that.

Hope this helps.
