My son has cf, diabetes, high blood pressure, MRSA and now grows nocardia and a normal teenage attitude. His school hasn't been very cooperative with the MRSA issue and actually try to stop his P.E. so he wouldn't come in direct contact with other kids although we are now homebound due to several hosptialization he does have to go back any suggestion on how to deal with them?

I have one suggestion. Don't take anyone's crap. Stick up for your son. And then he'll learn to stick up for himself. My mother did it until I was able, and now I do it for myself. Even though she still backs me up. Never take anyone's crap about the CF. Ever.

I completely agree. You need to stick up for your son. There are laws against discriminating against people with "disabilities" such as CF. By not cooperating with you to help your son have a positive school experience they are essentially discriminating againt him. He's only 13, thats a tough age even if you don't have CF. He definately needs you to be an advocate for him.

I, too have MRSA and I looked online to find information about it when I was first diagnosed. You may check w/ your doctor, but from what I can gather, there are 2 kinds of MRSA. One is the kind that is spread in locker rooms w/ sports teams and I think it is a skin type staph infection. The other is the staph that we CFers can culture in our lungs. The school has probably heard about the locker room spread MRSA and doesn't understand that your son has MRSA in his lungs & it can't be spread to others unless their immune system is compromised (i.e. undergoing chemo, have CF or other immune deficient disease). They probably think he has the type of MRSA that has become a problem in locker rooms across the country. Ask your Dr first to make sure that your sons MRSA is not the locker room variety and then explain to the school authorities that your son has MRSA in his lungs, not the skin type (if this is actually what the Dr confirmed). I hope this has helped & not confused you.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I agree, you should not let the school discriminate against your son at all. What they need to do is get educated. Maybe you can get some books from your CF clinic and share them with the school. By the way, what state do you live in....just curious.
