Hi - Just curious.... this was the result of my 7 yr old son's latest culture. Is this something that is usually treated for or not unless there are symptoms? I am awaiting the dr.s response. Thankd for any experiences. Jo Ann, Mom of 7 and 10 yr old boys, one with cf.

Hi, my daughter has cutlured SA for a year now and it has never been treated. Our clinic doesn't like to treat this one unless it is causing infection because it can usually be knocked out easily (although my dd's SA is susceptible to more than just oxacillin, so it may be different than your sons). I don't really like thinking about it being in her lungs but it hasn't caused any problems yet... I think it is often let untreated bc of the risk of building up immunity to antibiotics if they are used often...

HTH!
