My name is Jamie and I am 21. Right now I am in the hospital taking IVs for my CF. I have never really had any desire to talk to people my age with CF, but every days is a new day, so why not.
I don't always do what I am supposed to....i.e. my TOBI, Pulmozyme and Albeuterol get on the side burner, which leads to a downward spiral and puts me back in the hospital. It just gets overwhelming, which is where I get into trouble.
I was never hospitalized until I was like 19, so this whole experience is still kind of new to me. My degree of CF had been able to be placed on the backburner until then......however, they call this a "progressive disease" for a reason, right?
So anyway, with some of my lung function back and a plan of attack written on yellow construction paper, I am planning to set goals, make and eventually exceed them in regards to my meds and exercise.
That is part of my story, and would like to hear some of yours....
Thanks

Welcome!! I totally know what you are talking about. Ive been hospitalized pretty much once a year since I was like 10...but now notice that its going up to two times. I hope you will like this site as much as I have. I joined in November-ish and have learned heaps of information. You seem to be a lot like me, in that I began taking things for granted, and putting my health on a back burner, not doing meds and things like that. Since then I was in the hospital once, and a month later my PFT's were back at thier highest (FEV1 89). I have learned to become a lot more compliant with my meds and I have met so many people who know just what I am going through.

Hope your out of the hosp soon! If you ever want to chat, PM me and we can get to know each other. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi my name is Amy, I am 24. Up until I was 23 I had never been hospitalized for anything serious. Then I got hit with double pnemonia and managed to catch MERSA which is a really bad staph infection. When I was admitted my o2 stats were 52% and I really thought I was going to die. My mom had always done everything she could to keep me healthy but as I got older I started blow off my treatments because I thought I didn't need it because I didn't feel sick. My world came crashing down when they told me I would probably have to be on constant oxygen for the rest of my life. That was something I wasn't ready to deal with. All I wanted was to be "normal" and live my life like I wanted to. I was in the hospital a month ago for a "tune up" and my lung function was 18%. I decided that I wasn't going to let cf take my life away. So I have started doing all of my nebs, I finally got my vest I had been waiting for, and Wednesday I had my follow up visit in Denver. My lung function came up to 25% which is not great, but I'm happy to know that it is still possible for it to come back up. If you need someone to talk to you can private message me. Hope you feel better.

Hi Jamie, I know exactly what you mean by 'Progressive'. I was VERY healthy as a child, and aside from being hospitalized like once for an intestinal clog I hadn't had any hospital stays.
I used to be a dancer/stage actor and in 2003 I got a HUGE opportunity to be in the first proscenium production of 'Cats'. I worked myself WAY to hard in the show and lost loads of weight and was hospitalized due to my lungs for the first time. It was like I broke the seal, and I've never been able to get back to the place I was physically, it really sucks.

I'll be 21 in about two weeks, and if you want to talk feel free to message me, or if you have AIM my screen name is Lance2020x

Jaime,
My son is in the hospital right now for the first time. He developed a really bad virus. We're in Texas too. I'm hoping to find some information here that can help him recover. Right now he's is still very weak.
