My 5 month old was diagnosed with RSV in the beginning of March. Her lungs stayed clear thank goodness. They said that she could have lingering efects of it for up to 3 months or so. Well now going on 2 moths she seems to be throwing up lots of mucus and has just started Zyrtec for allergies because she has been congested for almost a month. Does anyone know of any infant having CF and getting RSV and how it efected them?

My little one had rsv at about that age. Handled it pretty well it took longer to get over then they said. Had a few times it seemed worse then it was all gone. No signs of damage so. We were pretty happy. It was really upseting though to worry about something for so long.

my son recieved synergin shots his first year, he ended up getting RSV when he was 2.
I am not sure how to spell synergin, but its a shot every month for flu season, they are really expensive around 1100.00 per shot our insurance covered it for his first year it seemed to protect him.
When he got RSV last year he ended up in hospital but only for 3 days.
Good luck.

I'm not sure exactly what RSV is but I know that when I get sick I cough up more mucus when I'm feeling better than early on. For one thing the mucus is thinner when you've been on medication for a while. Also since its thinner you don't have to work as hard to get it up so my abdominal muscles not to mention my throat don't hurt. Hope this helps.

I brought it to my pedi's attention that I wanted my then 3 month old to have the synagis shot starting last NOV. My insurance company approved it (BC/BS of MASS). They told me they would have to see about giving it to him next year. I already told them since he will not be two until the following August that he WILL have the shot NOV-APR of next year. He did great this winter with two very minor colds. My CF clinic does not recommend for or against the shot. I say every little bit helps. Good luck! btw - the shots for my son were over 3k per month due to his size (he is very big....) All covered by insurance.

Was the child diagnosed by a sweat test or dna testing?
Was the test done at a CF center?

THe first thing the parents need to do is make an appointment with the nearest pediatric pulmonologist in the area. The Dr. office should be an accredited CF center. You may have to wait a couple of weeks to get your appointment, so make it soon. The doctor will explain everything then. If you need extra info. before your appointment, feel free to ask any questions on this forum.

Good Luck

My son, Anthony, was dx with CF at ten days of age and is now 10 months. At 7 months, he was diagnosed with RSV, staph areus, and pseudomonas all at the same time! He was in the hospital for 12 days from the end of January thru the beginning of February. I was told that he would "shed" the RSV for up to 6 weeks. Since then, he has been well, thankfully. It was a rough time, though...that cough! UGH!

We are looking forward to a spring full of health and hope!
Best of luck to you!
