I prepared a bunch of information for DS' school -- CFRI school literature, ditto with CFFs as well as their info on enzymes, athletics. Also included a letter from lisa greene's site to the teacher specifically addressing some issues such as access to bathrooms, water, enzymes...

We were told the teacher will handle the enzyme issue so DS won't have to go to the school office -- there's no full time school nurse.

My husband dropped off all the info and met with the principal this morning who indicated that they'd like us to meet with a school counselor later in the week to set up a 504 plan. So, lest I forget anything... What do your child's include?

We have an IEP for Aidan as Other Health Impaired. He starts kindergarten in two weeks.
Modifications include..
-self medicate creon in classroom
-unlimited access to bathroom
-air conditioning
-extra snacks/drinks as necesaary
-all kids wash hands when enter classroom

Maggie's includes; proper and timely administration of enzymes. Unlimited drinks; explaining salt replacement after gym hot days and or exersize(ie. salty pretzels after gym if needed; she usually just drinks gatorade). Also, the doc requested Maggie have work sent home for prolonged absences and if she is absent for 3 days in a row she should have a tutor set up, so she does not fall behind in school work(this was not an issue in kindergarten but it's nice to have it just in case). The doc left his phone # and address for any questions as well as explaining that Maggie should be able to obtain any goals that she sets for herself and she should have high expectations for her future; in other words she is expected to do the work, do well and treat her the same as other students. Also, kids with CF should not play together so please have the nurse tell you if another child/teacher whatever has CF and make proper arrangements...Wierd things come up from time to time. For example. the first grade I think goes to an assisted living facility to sing at the holiday time; already thinking I do not want Maggie to go for this field trip; not worth it for the exposure to the germs....
