6 week wait time for sweat test?

My 5 year old son is going through testing for cf. He has done the genetic blood test, pft, and sweat test. First we were told that sweat test results would be available at gp in 3 days or so. After 10 days with no results the gp's office called the hospital and was told it would be two weeks for results. I called gp again yesterday as it has been 3 weeks since test. Once again my gp's office called hospital for info and was told the results would take 6 weeks! I have never heard of the sweat test results taking so long! My friends son got her results in 3 days! Has anyone else had to wait so long?

We received our daughter's sweat test results the same day the test was done. Was the test done at an accredited CF center? The wait must be very painful. As for the genetic tests one of my daughter's was done by quest and took months and the other daughter's genetics was done by Ambry and we received the results in about 2 weeks.

Thanks for your reply. His sweat test was done at our local hospital and sent to a cf clinic. I was told about a month for genetic testing so I am hoping to hear in the next week or so.

We received ours that afternoon. Was done at a CF Center while DS was in the NICU. Basic genetic blood test -- most common mutations from Mayo --- took 6 days.

We found out 15 minutes after leaving the test. Kind of hard hearing something like that when you're trying to drive home.

I could imagine that would be incredibly difficult for you! I lost a cousin to cf and it is a horrible disease!

Thanks for the reply! I was able to get sweat test results through the genetic councillor in a matter of minutes so still not sure why it was taking G.P 6 weeks to receive them. Regardless, it was a relief to hear some news. Another month and genetic testing results will be available!
