A clerical error at the CF center

My daughter had her first annual appointment just over a week ago. We recieved the notice of what she is culturing in the mail on Thursday. It said she cultured both mucoid and smooth pseudomonas and I absolutely fell apart. I know that it shouldn't make me fall apart, but it did. But then I thought, this is odd, if she is culturing PA, wouldn't they want her on something besides the Augmentin she's on? So I called the CF center. Our nurse wasn't there, but I got the Adult CF nurse. She thought it sounded odd too, especially since it said she cultured mucoid PA at just a year old. So she called the lab and sure enough, a clerical error!!!!!!

I am relieved. But now I'm worried. Do I need to question every paper I get from the center? I suppose everyone makes mistakes -- its the human element, it happens. But I'm wondering your opinions on whether this is something I need to pursue or just drop.

I love our center but this happened there as well. I get a copy of every culture faxed to us. I keep them all on file. I would suggest always getting copies plus I always call the CF nurse and get the results over the phone as well.
Glad it was an error!

it's unfortunate but people make mistakes. i woudln't go crazy questioning everything, but I would try to keep on top of things.

Well, you know a little about our story, so you probably understand why I say, "QUESTION EVERYTHING".
It may be my own paranoia, denial, or whatever, but we've had too many crazy things happen to just accept whatever we're being told at any given time.
Prove it to me baby! Just my opinion based on my experiences.
I am sorry that you had to go through what you did, but I am thrilled that it was a mistake!

Its unfortunate that it happened, but sadly it does. No matter what we want to think the people we deal with are just that....people who make errors. The computers & data from them are only as good as those that enter & program it. I am glad it worked in your favor this time, but now you know to not "assume" something & if it doesnt sound/feel right then question it.
