a cough and retracting

Alyssa has been coughing since Friday. I wasn't too worried since both my boys had this bug too, and I knew we had an appt for clinic tomorrow. I figured they wouldn't put us on antibiotics till day five anyway.

But this morning its pretty bad. She's coughing a lot. She ASKED me to do her vest, and told me it felt better after she did. It made her cough a ton afterwards, but the coughing was making her draw in this long shallow suck of breath and I noticed her chest/under rib cage area/is sucking in when she breathes.

Her demeanor is normal. She is not running a fever. But her appetite is very very low.

I'm tempted to just wait until tomorrow -- is there a good reason why I shouldn't???

Thanks in advance for any insight!!

I guess I'd be tempted to at least call the clinic. We went thru something similar a couple years ago -- ds developed a cold/cough on a Tuesday and had an appointment on a Friday. We upped treatments. No fever, just a cough and decreased appetite.

He ended up getting put on cipro and I had to search the City high and low for it. By then DS did develop a fever and slept quite a bit more. Once the drugs kicked in he was better by the end of the weekend, but I still felt that I shoulda woulda coulda called soner.

I think I would call. When Jordan has his asthma attacks, his ribs suck in like that. Keep us posted.

Thanks ladies. I called and the CF nurse said to call 911 or come into the ER if it continues, but if it is intermittent and she recovers okay we can wait until tomorrow. She is not in any emergency type state right now -- her mood is good. We did an extra vest session and she seems happy. The cough hurts, but she is acting normal. I don't keep her shirt off all day to see if she is retracting, but I think it has passed. I'm sure it can wait till tomorrow.
