Hi,
I am a regular to this forum, and I am working on my masters thesis in genetic counseling. I wanted to do something with CF, since it interests me most. So, I have chosen to do a survey about whether or not parents who have a child diagnosed with CF decide to have more children or not. I realize this is a very private matter, but I would appreciate anyone who would be will to share this infomation with me when I have completed by prep work. So, what I am asking now is for parents to please e mail me at mar_md@yahoo.com if they would be willing to participate. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

I have a son, Nathan, who is 4 years old without CF. My daughter Hayley, who will be 1 in a few weeks has CF. We went through one miscarriage and a full term pregnancy that ended with our son dying of Potter's Syndrome prior to Nathan's birth (a very rare disease in which he was born without kidneys), he died 3 hours after birth.

I had my tubes tied after my C-Section with Hayley's birth, as we had decided not to tempt fate again. So we really aren't able to have more children and are satisfied with just two. But, had Hayley been my first born child I would have decided to have at least one more child, regardless of the risk that they would also have CF. I can't imagine my life without Hayley, I can only dream for her to have a life without CF (with a cure for CF!).

My sister, however, recently did the blood test and found out that she is a carrier for CF, her fiancee will now have the test and they have decided that they will not have children if he is also a carrier. I think it is a very personal decision for everyone. Hope that helps you! Feel free to e-mail me at Quaintancer15@msn.com if I can help you with anymore questions.
