A weight question.

When your weight fluctuates between a few numbers, which one do you pick and decide is the accurate number???? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

This keep happening. Yesterday morning I weighed 101 lbs, then last night I weighed 104 lbs. I wish it was just one number, b/c I'd like to think I now weigh 104, but maybe it's really 102.5?

How do you decide when it's fluctuating?

I just go with the middle number. Remember, also, that your weight at night depends on a few factors, inluding what you did/ate that day. So just to be safe, like when the doctor asks my weight, I give him the middle number of my fluctuations.

I wanted to add, that when I am in the hospital I notice that the nurses take your weight at night which is obviously when you weigh the most. Recently when I was in, they changed that and have started to take your weight first thing in the morning which is when you weigh the least.

I always use first thing in the morning (no clothes) before I eat anything, that way you are always comparing the same. When you go to the clinic or hospital you should at least this amount, most likely more as it will be after you ate something and you will have some clothes on. There is also small differences between scales. You may way a bit more or bit less from scale to scale.

As said you will weigh less in the morning, but when my weight fluctuates I try to stick with the middle number. Your weight can fluctuate up to 5 lbs either way due to water weight also, so that could explain the fluctuation as well.

Your most accurate weight is first thing in the morning, no clothes, before you've eaten, and after you've gone to the washroom. Your weight during the day and night will always be higher because you've got food in you. I always take my morning weight as my most accurate.

Ditto what Liz said, also, don't weigh yourself everyday (if you are watching your weight, or trying to put some on). Every other day or every two days it what's recommended by most docs. This is because your body weight varies from day to day depending on the water content inside your body, if you went to the bathroom at night...

I always weigh with my clothes on later in the day so I'll weigh more. Otherwise its too depressing. I do the same thing at the doctor, just to be consistent.

I try to weigh myself around the time my doctors appointments would normally be so I can an accurate idea of where I stand. I prefer to weigh myself early am or no later than 11am which is when I usually see my doctor. Later in the day my weight goes up & I rather work with the lower number so I am "driven" to work hard!
