Hi all you women I have a question Do any cf women suffer with their menstrul cycles ie have more than one a month?? I seem to have nothing but trouble and i'm not sure if it's to do with the treatment it's annoying and drives me crazy.

Mine are regular every month but I have the worst cramps, back ache and PMS. I'm horrible to be around. I want to get on that new pill so you only have 4 periods a year. I'd be more sane that way.

The 4 periods a year pill is Seasonale.

While I don't know about any of the issues of CF/bc pill/periods...

My experience with Seasonale has been wonderful. I get absolutely horrible cramps - and having them 4 times a year instead of 13 is a miracle. I haven't had any of the break-through bleeding (btb) issues and I've been on it for a year. It's rather high-dose, so if you have issues with hormones, it's probably not the way to go.

Previous to Seasonale, I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo, which I could take back to back for two packs without btb. After that, I was on Trivora (Enpresse) which is a little stronger, and I could do three packs in a row without btb (even though most people have issues taking a triphasic pill back to back).

Seasonale is a monophasic pill that has the same ingredients as Levora and Nordette - it's just an extended dosing cycle.

I used to have the exact opposite. I would have a period every 2 months, almost. Bad cramping, too. I saw my gyno about it (who's delt with other CF patients) and, though she didn't give me an explaination as to why that was, she perscribed that Ortho Evra patch. Been doing that for about a year and a half and haven't had a problem since.

CF doesn't effect the menstral cycle... but weight loss can, and we all know that weight loss is common for anyone with CF. Many women deal with issues related to their cycle, and they don't have CF. It's just something some women get.

Good luck though.

CF can affect menstrual cycles INDIRECTLY. Hormones and reproductive functions are inextricably linked to nutrition. If you are lacking in certain nutrients or have an overall deficit in nutrients your reproductive system will have a high likelihood of malfunction. Make sure you have a good balanced diet and are taking a high-quality multi-vitamin (pills are not optimal for people with CF because of the digestion issues, try a liquid).Try Chastetree Berry/Vitex. It is a good balancer of hormones. Also use Red Raspberry, preferably in a tea. Red Raspberry is an excellent tonic for the female reproductive system. It can literally work wonders. Including reducing pain during periods. You can also use Evening Primrose Oil to help soothe cramps. Look around on www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/improving_fertility and www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/wellness. The information on the Improving Fertility page can be used for obtaining proper functioning, not just necessarily trying to get pregnant. BC Pills may have a lowered effect on women with CF because of the digestive issues as well as frequent antibiotic use. Check on this for your particular case.

You may have a hormone imbalance. That happened to me when I was 18 and my periods went crazy. I'd have one for 8 days, then get it agin 2 weeks later, then not get one for 2 months. I saw an endocrenologist (sp??) to have my hormone levels checked, and sure enough, they were way off. I just when on the pill and it took care of everything.

I got my first period 3 months before I turbed 14. I will never forget it. I was in gym class at school & called home to tell my MOm to have something for me to use when I got home. My gym teacher who was my older cousing gave me a pad to use during school. I developed very slowly before I got my period as far as breasts & hair etc. I dont really think I was done developing when I got my actual period.
