I cant stand coughing either. You can have something to calm the cough down so you can at least get some sleep. Im not sure what, maybe robitussin or something, but i know there is something you can have. Call your doctor and tell him (or her) whats been going on and that you cant sleep because of the cough and he/she will suggest something for you to take. I always use Hall's cough drops when i am having a problem with my coughing. Feel better soon !!

Whether you're supposed to or not, I take NyQuil during a bad cough. If nothing else, it at least helps me sleep. If your cough is more like the tickly annoying kind (the kind that seems to aggrevate your throat), it may be postnasal. If it is, you can try doing a sinus irrigation. That usually clears things up for me for a few hours. A last resort would be eating something cold, like munching on ice chips. It seems to help soothe my throat when I'm coughing hard.

Good luck getting it to go away! You certainly DO NOT need a hospital stay!

Eeeek with FEV1 dropping from 80 to 60, I would disagree.

I would hate to see that as permanent lung damage <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

If there is any way to get someone to help with the baby, I would encourage you to consider at least a few days of a hospital stay to try to recover lost lung function.

If not for you, for your baby to have a mom who will live longer because of proactive treatment of flair ups.

I hope you will at least consider it....
