Absorption problems

Just wondering if anyone has experienced absorption problems while taking antibiotics. Archie (6mths) is on Ceclor for an infection at the moment and his poo has become very sloppy/greesy. It says that diarrhea is a side affect but I'm worried about his weight gain.

Is this normal or should I consult the doc?

Antibiotics can do a number on ya..some more than others. I personally make sure I have yogurt in me, but there are other alternatives. The idea is not to just slow down the loose stools, but to replenish the good bacterias that get knocked out when trying to kill the bad ones! Some of us take supplements, but for the life of me I can recall what the heck they are called....Someone help!

DS had a heck of a time last spring when his doctor put him on augmentin to knock out a nasty sinus infection. We really hadn't had a problem before, but our pharmacist did something with the dosage to save us some money and so we wouldn't have to throw as much away after the time expired on it, it shouldn't have made a difference, but it did. DS had liquid poo and it was about the same time they started going outside for daycare again and he discovered the sand box -- poor kid had liquid poo and SAND in his diapers. I bought yogurt, acidopholus milk and go-gurt, and increased his enzymes by half a capsule, which helped, but after a week of still having fairly loose stools, I had the pharmacist mix the prescription the way the doctor wrote it (less potency, more cc's) and ds did fine. It is pretty normal. I give my son w/CF some acidophillus right from the start whenever he's on antibiotics. The dosage that seems to work for him is 1/2 capsule twice per day and the brand we get says each capsule contains 10 billion cells of the little buggers -

Thanks Guys, as Archie is allergic to cows milk, I can't go the yoghurt option. I have contacted our Naturpath and he has given me some Lactoban which is full of the good bacterias and helps with the neg affects of antibiotics. He seems better already - thanks for your advice.
