Hello all,
I know you are probably thinking why not ask your doctor. Oh Lord do I wish it was that easy We are not at a clinic and our pulmonologist is a kook!!!! I can contact our old clinic, but figured you guys might have a better idea anyway

Our pediatrician is willing to work on getting an approval for an acapella for Ethan, but I need to know which one would be the best for him. He is 6 1/2 and has very little mucus production with the vest.

There is the acapella choice and then the blue one and green one. Any suggestions?

blessings,
missa

Acapella Choice is best since it can be taken apart into 4 pieces and boiled. The Choice also comes in 2 colors, one of which is more appropriate for kids (Emily has the green one.) But make sure you get the Choice vs. the less expensive other one. I don't know how on earth people keep the other one clean. *yuck*

It gets Emily coughing pretty hard but she doesn't have a lot of endurance for it. You can also get an adapter for it and do nebs with it, if that interests you... hopefully their pulm can figure that out for you at least; if not that would be worth calling their old cf clinic about I think since it could make neb sessions much more therapeutic, esp something like HTS I am thinking.

wow, I didnt know there were different ones available! I have the regular green one, and I always hated that it couldnt be taken apart, for that reason, I have barely used it.... literally just sits there and gets dusty. I clean it by soaking it in soapy water and stuff, then I rinse as best as I can and then soak in rubbing alcohol and let dry... but I still have wondered what nook and crankies Im missing... so I dont use it.

I think the difference between the green vs. blue regular ones is the strength... so thats why I have the green one.

Anyone seen a new flutter looking device? I was at my pulmonologists office and saw a blue looking flutter like device on his product list... is that the lung flute? He was telling me he was looking into it so maybe they got some to sell.

I have the Acapella Chioce as well since it can boiled. I use it when I do not want to carry my vest while traveling.

Hi,
I see that this thread is pretty dated but I thought I would reach out. I'm with the company that makes the Lung Flute. We have a Pediatric CF Clinic that has been trialing the product for over 9 months. They have had good results. If your clinic would like to reach out to them, please let me know. They will speak on behalf of the product.
Very simple operation, only one device and you need to be able to have enough force to blow out a candle to operate it. So hold your finger up and pretend you are blowing out that candle. You'll need to continue to repeat this until secretions mobilize. A training video in on our website...www.lungflute.com.

The Acapella Choice is the best. You can also use a bottle sterilizer to Sterilize the nebs, neti, and Acapella. It works great and saves so much time. We used the Nook bottle sterilizer for 2 years now. I will never go back to boiling again.
