Yes, my daughter (17 years old) has been seeing an acupuncturist/Chinese herbalogist for several months now -- she is working on her for several things, but she does always do what she can to tailor her treatment for reducing mucus and inflamation.

Although we cannot say we have seen miraculous results, my daughter does enjoy the visits and the acupuncturist has put a lot of effort and research into learning about CF and doing what she can to help. She will probably continue to see her on a regular basis. It's more about the whole package kind of thing -- getting the entire body back in balance, or as balanced as possible with CF -- so it's not a "quick fix" for anything.

Hi

I have tried Accupuncture and accupressure over a number of years pre and post transplant. I only used Accupuncture post transplant when I had a bad sinus infection. I thought it helped a lot until I discovered my own method and I no longer use Accupuncture. I no longer trust the needle system etc... and it is very costly. I learned a lot from the book Energy Medicine by Donna Eden. I cannot believe how much this book has helped me. They discuss a lot about the meridians and you do not have to use accupuncture to reach and treat meridians. There is also EFT emtional freedom technique that uses meridian work. If you are interested email me txbuddies@yahoo.com

What I am referring to my own method in the above post is I lay flat face down on a massage table (I own one) for one hour and if there is any congestion it comes out. It is best to use saline before you lie down. What comes out is great because there is no chance of it getting into my lungs. keeping all traffic lanes open

I have used Accupuncture in the past. The it was for excrutiating neck pain from degenerative arthritis in my neck. The treatments made the pain go away. Also found that my Asthma and lung function got better. This was a Chinese Accupunturist and she insisted on too many herbs as well that did not agree with my CF digestive system.
I just starting going to another Accupunturist who specializes in japanese technique, they do not focus on herbs unless needed later on in treatment. I was tuning up for surgery. The short of it was that it helped a great deal and I went home the next day after having gallbladder removal and permanent breast implant surgery. I one year post breast cancer surgery.
I will be going back to get on a routine treatment plan with this new Accupunturist. She claims to have many others that she has helped with lung issues.

I did acupuncture for a few months. I loved it. I think it feels so good. It helped with my back aches, mood, helped me breathe easier. To me it felt like a good deep tissue massage. I stopped going b/c my insurance stopped paying for it.
But, I think I'm going to start going again anyway.

My father in law has had very severe seasonal allergies his whole life. So bad that no allergy med helps him, he can't see when he drives, very bad. So he starts accupuncture, and it helps a little, then a little more. Now he's done it for 3 yrs and he doesn't get seasonal allergies at all.

I think to see significant benefits though, you have to stick with it for a while.

accupuncture can treat TMJ. What is also good to do yourself is put one finger all the way on the top of your last tooth. Press up on both back teeth and press down all the back teeth. This is an excellent release. Also if you sleep with your mouth open at night will create more problems with the tmj. I would sometimes put a thin piece of tape(designed for the skin) on my lips and it is acts as a reminder to keep your jaw closed. works like a charm and no TMJ headaches. Risa

I was actually more reliant on "Shiatsu", than Acupuncture. They both are generally the same, working on parts of the body to bring balance, and relieve tension and pain. Though, the only difference would be the Shiatsu focuses on pressure points to eliviate the pain, and bring a better circulation of blood to that area, but Acupuncture is stimulating the nervous system, based on Ancient Chinese Methods to stimulate parts of the body that is believed to be connected to major (and minor) organs, etc.
Mostly, I don't like needles, but also, during my Aikido study, the Instructor was very knowledgeable in Shiatsu, and I was intrigued by it. I found that it's focus on pressure points would be usefull in "hurting" as well as "healing", and would be helpful for someone who doesn't have all that much strength.
Anyway, my understanding of Acupunture is the stimulation of the nerves that are connected to organs, etc. The Chinese theory on medicine, from what I heard, is the opposite to western medicine. The Chinese medicine promotes the body to heal itself, whilst the western medicine is dependent on healing the body without any help. I agree with medicine to help the body strenghten itself, I would think there are very little or no side effects to it.

My nephew is a certified accupressureist (if that is a real title....I dont know what its actually called). When he had to get his required number of hours in before his certification he would work on our family members during the holiday gatherings. It was fabulous. I dont know if I can do the accupunture....the needle thing really gets me!
