ADEKS Confusion

I went to take my ADKES right now, and just noticed for the first time what it says on the bottle. It says you are suppose to "Chew Before Swallowing"! What in the world? I've never seen or heard of this, no one's mentioned that to me. Do you all chew the pills first?

That is so funny! I had the EXACT same problem. I took them for years but always swallowed them because I do that with all my other pills and they do not look like they tast good. Well everything was going along fine except the last time I was in clinic my doctor said that one of my vitamin levels was high. He asked how many times I take my vitamins (two) and then said, "you're chewing them right?" Well of course I said yes because he said it in a way that meant that it was a stupid question. So he bumped me down to one a day. Now I take ABDEK which is a gell cap and i like it much more. No confusion. So, although I took those for easily half my life I am convinced that my levels were high because I swallowed them. So i switched<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

That is so funny! I had the EXACT same problem. I took them for years but always swallowed them because I do that with all my other pills and they do not look like they tast good. I wondered the same thing about 10 years ago when I started taking ADEKs.
My doctor said it DOES NOT MATTER if you dont chew them, and just swallow them.
I hope he's right, cuz I've been just swallowing them for the last 10 years...
seriously, I can't imagine it would make any difference, either way the stomach breaks it all down to be absorbed in the duodenum, RIGHT???

seriously, I can't imagine it would make any difference, either way the stomach breaks it all down to be absorbed in the duodenum, RIGHT???

Lets use corn and peanuts for example.....you probably have seen them on the other side if you know what I mean. If you don't actually crush each kernel or nut they will not get digested and go straight through. Wow...why did I go there????Anyway, yes I made the same mistake too.

i chew them as well always have.. i dont no just when i got the bottle to start with i read the botltle so i have kinda chewed them all the time, it is a minging taste tho, makes ur saliva go orange! sorry it is smoothdave forgot to log in and cant be bothered re typin it all!

Brady has always chewed them, but it was funny because Brady always has orange lips after chewing it and I can always tell if he is not telling the truth and hiding the vitamin. Brady has always chewed them, but it was funny because Brady always has orange lips after chewing it and I can always tell if he is not telling the truth and hiding the vitamin. So do we know for sure that we HAVE to chew them to get the benefit? I have NEVER chewed them & gag just at the thought of it. I will ask my doctor at my next appt as well as the feedback here.....

I think that you don't have to chew them for them to be effective. Heck if i haven't chewed them for over 10 years and my vitamin levels were too high then they obviously were working. That is just my thought though

Mine say that they must be chewed or crushed thoroughly. I can't even imagine chewing ADEKs, as they taste so awful just swallowing them. As anyone else noticed what a bad taste they leave in your mouth? I now wonder if they would be more effective chewed up, then swallowed, as I've been swallowing mine for 10+ years now! Something I'll have to ask my doc next time.
