hi y'all

in trying to "up" my general nutrition...i am going to try to get myself on some sort of vitamin. for the first time in my life. (ouch...i know i am a CF slacker.)

if i am trying to up the amount of ADEK in my diet, can i just go to Whole Foods and pick up a general vitamin, or is it better to get a "CF" ADEK vitamin? what is the difference between the 2?

and i have had trouble locating ADEKs in the past, any advice for getting my hands on a bottle of vitamins w/ out a huuuuge hassel?

thanks....

My pharmacy for some reason was recently unable to get ADEK in stock so I switched to SourceCF vitamins. These are gelcaps, which can be swallowed as opposed to ADEK, which should be chewed (and some people claim they taste icky).

You should really get a CF specific vitamin as the concentrations of the fat-soluable vitamins we need are best in the CF vitamins. I also take a regular multivitamin though. I take the CF vitamin in the AM and the regular multivitamin in the evening.

You need a prescription for the CF vitamin - I discovered that while my insurance only paid a portion of the ADEK, they paid for the entire Rx of the SourceCF vitamins!! If you have a prescription, it shouldn't be a problem to locate it. Whatever pharmacy you use should either have it in stock or be able to order it for you. Good Luck!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Depending on your enzyme, the manufacturer has programs that will give them to you free of charge.

Here is the link to the Ultrase program

Creon has one as well but I dont know the name. Your CF Clinic should be able to give you the details.

I've had much better success with the SourceCF ABDEK multivitamins. They're a little on the large side, but at least you don't have to chew them! Plus, if you order other stuff from SourceCF, you can get free vitamins through a program they have.

I've been much more compliant with ABDEKS than the Scandipharm's ADEKS. It's easier to make myself take them because they don't taste so awful!
