adoption

Hey guys,

I'm curious as to how many of you have adopted? I am 22, my fiance is 24 (w/CF) and it will be a few years before we are ready to have kids. However, with the realization that he can't biologically reproduce, it's something we'll probably have to start thinking about-- and planning for-- earlier.

I have always been a big advocate of adoption and would love to adopt, but Patrick is concerned that his CF will make it harder for us to do so. Anyone have any experience with this? Any advice? Good resources?

Thanks!

allie on here adopted, you might find more info from her in the partners section.

Are you aware of all the options for your fiance to father biological children? Not trying to steer you from that, but just want to make sure you know what all your options are.

I know that he has no semen in his ejaculate, but that it could be be taken surgically. And I am definitely in favor of having our own biological child. But I would also like to explore adoption... there are so many kids out there who need good homes.

Incidentally, is the surgical option expensive? I have not been tested to see if I'm a carrier of the gene, so that's something else that would have to be considered...

From talking with Allie & a few others who looked into adoption....this is the basics I know. Adoptions in the USA through agencies are more difficult due to the CF although not impossible. Private or open adoptions in the US is much easier. Allie & Ry adopted Ahava privately. There are also certain Countries that are more lax on health issues, but there are also certain ones that are very strict. I dont know what the price difference is among them all.
