My doctor started me on advair today So I was just wandering who else takes this and did you see a difference in breathing right away?..and has it helped you? Or is there anything that i need to be aware of :) thanks!

Its helped me. If I remember correctly, it took about a week to feel a difference. Make SURE you wash your mouth out afterwards, or you'll get one of nasty mouth thrushy things. I've been on it for years, havent seen any side effects (other than the nasty mouth condition which went away immediately when I started rinsing)

I've used it in the past and it helped my breathing, but it aways gave me thrush, despite rinsing my mouth afterwards. Now I take either Symbicort or Flovent + Serevent and I don't have the problem with thrush and it seems to work on my lungs just as well.

I did not know this and am surprised my doctor never mentioned it! Thanks for letting me know.

I saw quite an improvement in my small airways (FEV25-75) after starting Advair. I use the HFA 115/21. I cannot get rid of the thrush because of it, so I use daily Nystatin.

Joni-

My new CF doctor just told me about a study that CFers do not benefit from Advair. He wanted me to do a "test" of not taking it for a month prior to one of my clinic visits to see if there was any difference in PFTs. I don't think I'm willing to do that - I really feel like it does something for me.

I think it definitely helps CFers with asthma related issues - which I have. Advair has made a huge difference for me. I can tell if I am late on a dose...my chest just feels tighter. I really helps!

I should add, it also really increased my small airway number (FEV25-75) like Leah said. I wash my mouth out, and I take super strong acidophilous daily and have been able to keep the thrush away.

My doc pulled my inhaled steroids because of these findings. Unlike the rest of you, I never noticed a difference.

Just wanted to say now that you're taking advair, you should find a way to strengthen your immune system because in my personal experience with low fev1 and advair, it works great for what its intended to do but it also makes an exacerbation more frequent and harder to recover from as it also weakens the immune system along with all the antibiotics we take. I've recently been taking liposomal vitamin c to combat my immune deficiency and so far I'm 7 weeks off IVs in a year that I was being put back on every 2 and also feeling great. Just my 2 cents =)

Basically, liposomal means there is a coating over the vitamin c that enables the body to use more vitamin c more efficiently. The kind I use is by LivOn Labs but there are a few brands that make a liposomal version.
