Are there any cases in which you have met the donor's family or would like to? I know there are certain rules about these procedures but has anyone met a family of the donor? Would you want to?
I always thought if I ever got a transplant, AND THEY WANTED TO MEET ME, I would like to meet them.

Any thoughts?

I have not met or even received a letter back from my donor's family. That being said I know of several people at my center that have at the very least received letters from their donor's family and a few that have actually met the donor's family.

Personally I would want to at the very least get a letter from them just to know a little bit more about my donor. If it ever happens I will be more than happy. I mainly just want to know his name and what he looks like - just something to think of when I thank the person that saved my life.

It took my donor family 5 years before I received a letter from them. I sent one letter 3 months post tx and another letter at my 4 year mark.

Keep in mind that the family are greiving and it is difficult for them to write back to you, but I know from my donor family that my letters were very much appreciated, it was just way to painful and raw for them to reply sooner then what they did, but they did cherish my letters but were unable to put words to paper.

It is a truly amazing feeling to get that letter.
