I haven't heard anything from my donor family either. I sent a letter about a year after my transplant. I'm about 2 years out now and I already have another one written. I'm unsure if I should send it or not? People are telling me it could be extra hard with this family since I am so small the lungs were most likely from a child. I would love to meet them if they would like to meet me but I agree with Lindsey, I would just like to know the name and what they looked like so I have a face in my mind everytime I think of them.

Karla,
Thank you for sharing that with us. I'm sure that there are many families like that who are upset that their family member is gone. If it seems like he would be mad at you for having his Mother's organs, then I don't think I would want to meet him either. I guess that the only thing for you to do, if you do write him back, is to explain to him that there are still things to worry about. You could go into rejection, may need a kidney transplant some day, or even a liver transplant because of the meds.

I'm sorry that you got a letter like that. It must have been really hard to read.

I am a caregiver for my grand daughter who has CF and had her transplant 09/2004. She sent a letter thru her dr to UNOS and we called and met the donor family. It was bitter and sweet. The family was nice but I don't think I would recommend a long term relationship. It was nice for my grand daughter to say thank you and for them to see what a wonderful gift they gave.

I wrote my letter to my donor family about a year after my transplant. I got a letter back about 4 months later when I was going thru rejection, so it was a nice time to recieve it. It took me a while to write back but I did and I recieved another letter, this time from his mother, the first was from his father...this time she gave me her phone number to call and said she would love to tell me all about Mark (my donor).
I definitely hope to meet them one day, and I think getting her phone number means she's reaching out to me, I didnt even ask for it.
