Almond Milk

What is healthier? Almond or Cow's milk? We're thinking of switching to almond milk, because cow's milk may cause some mucus buildup in the pancreas. Our daughter is two, and drinks Lactose free milk, because lactose was an issue.

My concerns are that Almond milk may not have the same vitamin D, and vitamins, calcium, calories and fat? She is on a super highfat diet and milk has been like her fourth meal of the day. But if the cow's milk causes mucus build-up, she may not be absorbing the fat anyway.

Any insight would be great. She likes the taste of both, so that isn't a concern. Has anyone switched. And is it true that cow's milk can cause mucus build-up? Thank you wonderful people!!! -Elise Free

I guess I've never worried about potential for mucus build up with dairy products -- thought enzymes would take care of the digestive part of it. DS loves dairy -- cheese, yogurt, plus I add cream to his whole milk for extra calories as per his CF doctor's instructions.

YES milk products in general increase the thickness of mucus in my case up to fifty percent or greater. I had to test this theory many times until I convinced myself. Medical doctors often do not agree that milk can increase milk production but if you tell them this is what you observe, they will not tell you are crazy. Many nutrition books will tell you about the increase in mucus.

Dr. Perricone, Dr. Mercola, Dr. weil all the latest md guras will tell you about dairy products in general. I do eat organic cottage cheese sometimes. I no longer eat cheese or drink milk.

I never had bone loss and I am a transplant patient. I do eat a ton of green vegetables which has lots of calcium, mag and vitamin D. I do drink rice milk with calcium and vit d. I also drink almond milk which is good for you.

As long as someone is eating their green veggies, and all the rest of the healthy foods, there should be no problem with loss of calcium.

I feel if there is more mucus buildup that contributes to more damaged lung tissue. Organic milk products are probably better for you but i would not go crazy on them. A little cannot hurt.

I do drink Kefir and eat cottage cheese but that is my limit. I have tried rice cheese but that is in moderation because of the casein in this ingredient.
