I read, and reread the instructions about one hundred times, and cannot find ANYWHERE that says the metal head for the Altera nebulizer needs to be sitting in alcohol at all times. I know this is true for the Trio Eflow, but I'm worried that I'm not taking care of my Altera the correct way.

And I don't want to just put it in alcohol anyway in case it is different and shouldn't be in there. Anyone else stumped about this? How are you storing your metal head?

I keep it in alcohol over night but I don't keep it in alcohol during the day. I find it takes a long time for the alcohol to dry off of it and I end up missing a dose (I get side tracked and forget). The instructions don't say anything about alcohol so you're not missing things.

I don't keep it in alcohol at all. I wash and sterilize it as directed in the video. Alcohol was never mentioned.
But its making me think I'm missing something.

I also rarely seal the sterilized set in a container, bc it says to AIR dry it. It takes so long to airdry, by the time its airdried, i'm ready for my next dose. (unless of course I'm going out then I store in a tupperware)

now I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong too! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Okay I have an answer! A nurse working with Cayston called me as a courtesy call to make sure it was delivered alright, etc. So I asked her about keeping the metal head in alcohol. She explained getting the Altera from different pharmacy will lend you different directions. CF Pharmacy provides a NUK baby bottle sterilizer and as long as I'm using that once a day, there is no need for alcohol. The only reason why some people keep it in alcohol is because they were not provided a steam sterilizer and therefore the alcohol acts as the form of sterilization. She said that there's no evidence that keeping it in alcohol extends the life of the metal head so as long as I'm following the instructions I received, and sterilizing it once a day with the baby bottle cleaner then I shouldn't run into any problems.

The nurse was awesome. She was so informative.

Hopes this helps.
