Altered life expectancy?

How do you feel the advent of new drugs such as Pulmozyme have affected CF lifespan? Have any of your doctors dared to project on this matter? It's difficult for me to believe that the newer drugs aren't drastically improving lifespan in addition to quality of life but I haven't read anything in relation to an actual figure for a new average lifespan....I hate to dwell on the numbers...just curious about your thoughts...

Most will agree that as long as we are only treating the symptoms (ie. thinning the mucus, treating the bacteria, opening the airways, etc.) as all the current drugs on the market for cf do, we will not make drastic strides. Science must advance to treat the route of the problem (ie. modifier genes, chloride channel restoration, etc.) for there to be a major change in life expectancy. The good news is that denufusol and vx-770 both are in this direction.

Well, all I can really say is that when I was born and diagnosed in 1981, my Mom was told not to expect me to live past the age of 12. Here I am at 27 and the average age is now 36? Life expectancy is 24 years further than it was when I was born! That sounds pretty promising to me!!
