So Ellie has discovered her mouth and tongue and evertything is going in it, her hands, toys, her feet everything. All I can think of is germs, germs, germs. I don't want her touching anything and she is touching everything. From her last culture, she cultured a bacteria that was a mouth germ (I can't remember the name) and now I feel like she got it from my husband or me because we kiss on her so much. She also cultured e. coli (eww) how did she get to the poop? I'm so careful when changing her and I wipe down her changing table with disninfectant wipes everytime I change her. Okay, I know she is only 5 months old and she's going to only get into more things, but how do ya'll keep your little ones germ free?

DS is almost 5 and I still get after him for licking things, putting stuff in his mouth, picking his nose, drinks bathwater. Just hope for the best. I do wipe off the grocery carts and use hand sanitizer or handi-wipes when we get back to the car after shopping, before eating.

He's licked the counter at the department store check out, found ABC gum at the playground... Drives me nuts. But we can't be everywhere, all the time.

Don't be too hard on yourselves. Babies regularly culture e.coli, in small amounts...its just that most babies are not swabbed every 4-5 weeks like our CF babies...so no one knows! Yes, she will get germs. Like any baby. If you just keep up with good hygiene, wash your hands, wash her hands, clean her toys a bit more often than you want to (I never WANT to, but I do it anyway...heehee)...she'll be ok. You can't avoid colds, germs, runny noses. We were cautious but not nutty about it when Em was little. Today, she gets far fewer colds than the rest of us and than most of the other kids at daycare. I know this is partly luck, but I think it also has to do with the fact that her immune system had time to build up "resistance" as we slowly allowed her to do "normal" baby things.

It's scary, I know. But, if you use common sense she'll be ok.
