Ance linked to Vitamins

OK I have a ??? that I wasnt sure needed to be asked, but now have decided yes. I am suppose to be on multi vitamins. I have to say that is one thing I am bad about taking on a regular basis because it seems to make my face break out terrible in the terriblly, sore under the skin type pimples. I made a point of taking them during the holiday season only to have the horrid acne appear for all the get togethers. I have since stopped again & My face is clearing up. I know that is not just the brand since I know it has happened in the past with different brands. I am totally assuming that something in it is too potent & my body is reacting. I have made a point of drinking even more water than usual while on them, but it doesnt seem to help. Anyone else experience this odd connection? No problem with iron or ADEK that I noticed!!!

I've never heard of this. The only thing I can figure is maybe the mutivitamin is providing something you're already sufficient in, and so when you take it you're getting an overdose. Or maybe you have a reaction to one of the minerals... I hope you figure it out!

Are you taking a multi-vitamin in addition to ADEK? I have not experienced any problems with acne relating to my vitamins, but it would be interesting to know what brands you are using - is it over the counter brands that are giving you the reaction? How are you taking the vitamins? With food, or with other pills?

I take ADEK and One A Day Womens multivitamin (otc).

Make sure your vitamin doesn't contain any iodine. People with acne prone skin should lay off the iodine.

Also check out this website for acne info...

I am currently taking a generic brand, but have taken theramgram M in the past with the same results. The last vitamin panel showed I was low on my vitamin e, but all else was ok. I am do for my annual & will see what happens there. It almost seems like a reaction to something that I have too much of, but given what I eat/drink that seems rather odd LOL......in the meantime my vanity is kicking in & I wont take anymore until I get the vitamin level work back from my checkup. Thanks for your input!

Hi there
I very much doubt that an overdose of any vitamin or mineral would cause break outs - most vitamins if you overdo them simply pass straight through you - hence your can pee bright yellow if you overdose on B vitamins for instance. You did mention that you drink a lot of extra water when you are on these multivitamins - it's possible that the extra water is simply flushing all the toxins out of your system which can cause pimples. If you are on regular antibiotics, there would be a large amount of toxins your body is trying to clear out and this can cause cystic type 'under the skin' pimples. Perhaps you could try laying off the extra water next time you start taking these multivitamins and see if that makes a difference?

OK I dont understand how drinking extra water while taking them is CAUSING the pimples. The reason I was drinking extra was to help "flush" my system & "rinse" my skin. My oral antibiotics say to take with plenty of water. I dont know if I misunderstood you or if I just disagree. Maybe I will try it tho. Cant hurt. To CFHockeyMom I looked on the label & there is a high % of iodine in this one I have. I never took notice before, but since I am going to the grocery store & pharmacy tomorrow I will take notice to the different brands just in case. Its a pain to have this stupid stuff come up when I have more serious issues at hand LOL....Unfortnately if I am not looking the greatest I mentally dont feel the greatest which in turn affects me physically!

Hi,
why do you take ADEKs and other multivitamins? I take ADEKs and from time to time some extra Vitamin C and its enough.

YES I take multi vitamin, ADEK, Iron & Vitamin K. I never ?? why I needed the multi once I started the ADEK. I am ASSUMING my levels must only be in the acceptable area & not the great area even with the supplements. I will ask at my next appointment this month. Am I one of only a few that does multi vitamin & ADEK?

Hi, Kat here again
I just know from personal experience that if I start suddenly drinking a larger amount of water than I normally do (usually if i'm going to the gym very regularly for instance), then my body starts to cleanse itself of toxins (the water acts as a flush) and initially I break out - it's a good sign because it means that my body is cleansing itself of poisons, and eventually I end up with lovely glowing skin.....but I have to go through the initial pimply stage first, which is frustrating as i look like hell, but it's a temporary effect of drinking so much water. And i assume, that as most CFers take many antibiotics etc, the body sees them as toxic and they would then be flushed out of the body, through the skin and other eliminatory organs, by excessive water consumption. It is a good thing for CFers to drink loads of water though, so frustrating as it is, if you can put up with a hopefully temporary break out, your skin will thank you for it eventually. I know what you mean about the confidence knock though, i absolutely hate it when my skin acts up, it makes me depressed coz i look ugly enough as it is with my stick arms and legs and lovely barrel chest........the last thing I want/need is pimples to add to my mysery! Sometimes when i look in the mirror I just want to cry and it's all i can do to go out in public, so I can definitely sympathise with how it makes you feel. Good luck with this and i really hope you can get to the bottom of what is causing your problem. The water consumption is just a theory, i could well be wrong.
Cheers, Kat.
