Anesthesia to get a mucus sample?

My daughter had her quarterly CF clinic appointment today and her height & weight were good but the doc did not like the cough she has had off and on for the last few weeks. He did a throat culture but the results will not be back for several days and he offered to start antibiotics now or wait for the results. We decided to wait for the test results before starting any antibiotics. He said that if oral antibiotics do not clear up the cough he might want to do a procedure under anesthesia to get a mucus sample from inside her lungs and possibly put her in the hospital for a tune-up. Is anyone familiar with this procedure? Thanks to everyone for any input you may have.

I think you mean a bronch. My son had 1 a few months ago. Of course there's the usual stuff w/ any anesthesia, but its pretty quick and the info is pretty valuable. Keep us posted.
