Animals and Transplant

What does everyone elses doctors say about having/working with animals? I am under the impression that if you have had a transplant before than you can not clean out liter boxes and you can not be around birds. Other than that we are fine, especially if you are further out from your transplant. In terms of working with animals, its my understanding that we just have to wear contact procausions (gloves and of course a mask) we are okay. Does anyone know any more information about this. Please please let me know. Thanks

Every TX center is different, but we were told to stay away from cat litter and birds as well. We have a dog and a cat, and were told as long as they're not sleeping right up next to my wife, there shouldn't be any issues. Animals can carry lots of harmful things for TX patients just in their fur. Several years ago, my wife worked at a veterinarian clinic, but we've both decided that would not be a good environment for her after her transplant.
