A little off the topic, but yet animal related. My daughter & I just watched "8 Below" which is about a dog sled team in the Antartic that face a long, worst winter in 45 years. My daughter acutally couldnt bring herself to watch it once the first dog died. I continued to watch it thru tears. Its based on a true story & I had to see the ending. I wont give it away, but its not as bad as I expected! Anyone that is an animal lover would enjoy this or hate it depending on their sensitivity level!

I just can not handle animals dying and or being abused. Just can't handle it! I do want to see that movie, but when if some of they die like you said, it's going to be rough! I'll probably wait for it to be out on dvd and cuddle up with my puppy the whole time. She'll make me feel better about it, hopefully.

i am glad this has gotten you all thinking..thats why i posted it!! so remember, next time you want to get a dog or cat..GO TO A SHELTER!! i know it sounds messed up but i get so upset when i hear on the news about an animal gettign killed more so then when a person does. i guess some how i am so use to hearing about people getting shot that i am less sensitive to it but since there is no reason for something like that to happen to an animal it makes me all the more crazed! i do want to see that new movie..love dogs but also love paul walker! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I agree 1000000%...I also think it should be *ME* doing the shooting. I'd have zero remorse for taking complete wastes out like that.

Cruelty is cruelty, regardless what you do it to, be it animal, child, old person, women, etc. The reason why my care meter leans more towards animals is because there are many other advocates to each other category I listed, not many for the animals.

Hi Sonia,

It was me who posted about the Best Friends site - forgot to login!. See, the only way I've found to feel slightly better about this whole situation with animals is to DO something to help, whatever that may be at the moment. I volunteered at our local animal shelter a couple of times a month for three years walking and cuddling the dogs, have taken in two neglected dogs over the years, donate what I can to good organizations etc. The next dog we adopt (we have two now - a Shepherd and a Lab, plus two little kids - so that's as much as I can handle for now!) will be from a rescue group or shelter.

One day when my girls are much bigger, I would love to foster dogs for our local animal shelter or German Shepherd Rescue group (not til the girls are bigger, though, cuz many of these dogs have been neglected and have "issues", needing extra care etc.). I really understand how you feel; it drives me nuts (as does much of the other needless suffering on this planet!). I just want to feel that when my life is over I've done something to help animals, because I love them so much - obviously not much compared to others, but that I've done what I can given other responsibilities in my life. Anyway, I really understand your heartache about this, and thanks for caring so much!

I really want to see Eight Below too!

Catherine, when I'm in the hospital I can't stand being away from my pooches either! It's the worst for sure. I end up imagining where they are resting at that moment and how comfy they must feel because they have cushy beds in the living room and the bedroom. They're spoiled rotten little babies. Especially when they look up at you and you see their eyelashes, and they are just so innocent and filled with love. Love them!
