Antioxidant supplementation for infant...

Probably a question for the pediatrician or CF doctor regarding safety in an infant of 2 mos old, but how soon have some of you starting antioxidant supplementation in your CF children or yourselves? As the lungs of CF persons are in "immune system overdrive" it seems logical to supplement with more antioxidants than those that are found in diet alone. I'm not a fan of multilevel marketing, but MonaVie does interest me as it is full of antioxidants and already in antioxidant concentrated form, if you will. Somebody else posted that it helped their child...regardless of the name or who makes it or where it's from, I like the antioxidant supplementation idea...

My friend is an extreme naturalist and her husband is a pharmicist.. kinda funny combo, but they teach me alot. you can get echinecea(sp?) in liquid form to add to bottles or just drop in mouth when cold season comes. If you have a health food store they normally have people who can guide you with doseing and knowledge of everything else..

You can also make some of your own purees of foods that have natural antioxidents and just give a little like instead of using applesauce for the enzymes.

I just started using a product called caricol it is an organic papya puree that comes in a box of 20 stick packs and i use this instead of applesauce and the health benifits are amazing.. I took a clip off an informational site of the benifits of papya

Papayas offer not only the luscious taste and sunlit color of the tropics, but are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium and magnesium; and fiber. Together, these nutrients promote the health of the cardiovascular system and also provide protection against colon cancer. In addition, papaya contains the digestive enzyme, papain, which is used like bromelain, a similar enzyme found in pineapple, to treat sports injuries, other causes of trauma, and allergies.

considering that not only the antioxidants are there but what better than nautural enzyme to add into their diets. I am thinking about taking the stuff myself<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My son is 2 months as well.

Grape Seed Extract
Grape Seed Extract contains flavonoids OPCs, which offer powerful antioxidant protection. The flavonoids in Grape Seed Extract quench free radicals and potentiate other antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin C. One in vitro study showed that the flavonoids in Grape Seed Extract prolonged the life span of Vitamin C by 400 percent Another in vitro study showed that exposing blood vessel linings to pine bark OPCs (similar to Grape Seed Extracts) boosted their vitamin E content by 15 percent

Vitamin e is a great anti oxidant as well it helps increase circulation and oxygen up take, adn it enhances the immune function

zinc is also believed to boast the immune system, it is vital for the growth and development of the body's systems. It is a major part of the synthesis of DNA and RNA and aids in the production and processing of at least 42 vital enzymes in the body. Zinc is responsible for cell production, tissue growth and repair.
