something i've wondered for a long time.
does tobi show up in the blood stream the way tobra does?-therefore, does it affect the liver too?
i get occasional ringing in my ears-i havent been on ivs or hard abx for a long time, so its not that.
i'm on month on/off tobi though.
i mean, i've had the ear thing for years. so it could just be years of drugs.
also from the standpoint of pregnancy, some cf docs consider tobi safe, but not tobra. so there must be a difference in how its metabolized. i'm also considering this if i were to get preg, and the risk/benefit with that.

i've never had levels drawn for anything but ivs.

It is my understanding that it does not, which is the reason it was such a wonderful addition to the pipeline of meds. It allows for the daily benefit of Tobramycin in the lungs without the negative affect to other organs in the body.

My doctor said he was part of the tobi study when it first came out and they didn't find the drug at all in any of the blood cerium (blood without the cells) with the blood tests they did.

So... I guess that means it doesn't affect the organs? I don't know though, after a few days of going back on the inhaled tobi after years of not doing it my ears felt a little pluged up, no ringing though.

Funny thing is I asked to be on the I.V tobi in the hospital and I didn't notice any problems with my ears (though they did do constant blood draws and played with the dosing a little).

Going back to the cerium thing (sorry my biology is a little rusty) doesn't that mean the blood cells still carry oxygen (and what is in the oxygen, tobi right?) to the organs needed? Why would they just test the blood and not test the delivery system.. being the cells themselves? Sorry if I'm completely off, it's been a long time since science class.

I guess I should of also mentioned that I was part of the Tobi study as well when I was younger, I think the same study he was participating in. They tested like 100 people and none of it showed up in the cerium.
