I live in North Dakota and don't know anyone from New Orleans or the surrounding areas. Just curious as to who was affected?

There is a man named Steve from New Orleans with CF who lost everything. He was waiting to hear about his Mom, brothers & sister (I believe) as to how they are. He got in contact with the CF Foundation & they are helping him replace his meds etc. He doesnt have a neb, vest or anything & was starting to feel the affects of both the physical exertion of trying to get out & the lack of meds. I know of him from Amanda's other CF forum..

That is awful! My husband and I were just imagining if we were stuck there with our CF child and how we would deal with it, wondering how she would get her treatments, enzymes, etc. It brought tears to our eyes just thinking about it because we know that there are CF families/patients out there dealing with this. And the sad thing is that most people don't even know about this disease so they don't know what danger CFers are in! UGH!!!!

I have a friend who went to New Orleans on vacation and got stuck there and she has communicated a little bit through her mom that it is absolutely intolerable! There are many dead bodies around her (she is at a local hotel) and has to stay outside most of the time without showers, food, water, clean clothes, etc.

Please pray for them all!!!

My parents know a man from their self-defense class who works for FEMA. He's from the region affected most, and was able to contact his grandparents (they got out safely). However, he still hasn't heard from many other family members and friends. He was actually going to be sent down there, but because the looters are shooting at the FEMA helicopters and running rampant, his group's trip has been cancelled.

About the looters: isn't that awful? I mean, I could understand breaking into an empty house for food or water, but plasma tvs? alcohol? guns? seriously, that is just horrific, like grave robbing! Seriously.....

I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, BUT I THINK EACH AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL LIVING ON THIS PLANET IS AFFECTED BY THIS IF UR A DECENT HUMAN BEING.I WAS READING IN THE PAPER YESTERDAY AND THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT ALL THE ANIMALS, ESPECIALLY THE CATS AND DOGS LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT LET THE FAMILIES BRING THERE PETS ON THE EVACUATION BUSSES. WHEN I READ THIS, IT JUST BROKE MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!! THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE SOME ORGANIZATIONS GOING FROM DOOR TO DOOR BREAKING WINDOWS AND WHAT NOT TO RESCUE THESE POOR ANIMALS, BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GO TO EVERY HOUSE AND RESCUE EVERY ANIMAL!!!! THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS TRAGEDY, AWFULL DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never even thought about the animals left behind which surprises me. If something happened to us I already have planned what needs to go & my animals are part of that. I could never live with myself to leave them behind.

We live in Dallas and my son's school has already enrolled several families devasted by the hurricane. It has had a huge impact on my son and has forced him to look beyond himself. He was quite concerned for the kids who were unable to take their medicine and do their treatments. I can't even begin to imagine the pain these families went through watching their loved ones struggling to breath and being completely helpless.

I would have to say everyone is effected by it.

We even have buses of students and elderly that are coming here to the Quad Cities up in Iowa. There are donation buckets everywhere you turn. If you don't think you're effected wait a couple of weeks and then look at your gas, grocery and other bills. We're all getting hit to a degree.

I kinda ment effected on a more personal note. We saw the rise in gas prices the day after it happened and I see/hear donation advertisments constantly. It's hard to get a real grasp as to what happened there just by watching the news. They tend to just show the bad that is happening with the looting and all that and not show how much is being given by others to help out. I don't know what my stance is on everything because I hear one thing from one person and something completely different from someone else. Just curious.
